This weekend as we continue our Heroes of the Church series, we see God transform an aimless teen into a bold, effective leader. As Teresa of Ávila surrendered her life to God, He made her a leader and administrator who established centers of prayer throughout Spain. That was unheard of for a woman in the 1500s! But beneath her bold leadership was a tender heart for Jesus, her Beloved Savior and closest Friend. Her desire to help others press deeper into union with God made her a powerful mentor, and God still uses her to mentor people today.
