Sometimes God’s ideas about showing His power seem way too conservative. Why don’t we see His miraculous power more often? Is it because we’re doing something wrong? Did miracles disappear after the last apostle died in about 100 AD?
This week we learn about praying for God’s power. One of the best examples of God’s power is when Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal (a rival god) to a little contest of “Whose God is Bigger” in 1 Kings 18:18-40. There’s trash-talking, wood-dousing, and fire-from-heaven… and a lot of cheering (OK, that’s not in the text, but that’s what happens in my head when I read it!). Let’s learn to pray for God’s power.
